The Marietta's School Board said in a 5-to-2 vote it will cut up to 58 positions, including 38 teachers, in an effort to save money among its 1,268 employees. The school board is looking to save more than $3.2 million in its budget, saying reductions in state and local funding give officials no other choice.
The district added that it will cut certified part-time positions, including paraprofessionals, where available.
In another move to raise money, the district beginning next year will charge out-of-district students $3,000 to attend school in Marietta, as opposed to the $2,500 that the majority of students currently pay.
