Atlanta ATMS were among those hit late last year by hackers, according to information just released by the FBI.
Authorities report that the group of thieves swiped more than $9 million from ATMs locally and cities around the world after breaking into a computer at an Atlanta-based company.
The thieves got into the computer at Atlanta's RBS WorldPay in November and swiped information on 100 customers' ATM cards. They then proceeded to clone the cards, thereby creating duplicate ATM cards.
Among the other cities hit were New York, Chicago, Montreal and Moscow.
RBS WorldPlay covered the losses of the 100 customers whose cards were compromised, canceled the cards and made diffrent PINS for the customers. The company has also reportedly improved the firewall system to prevent this from happening again.
