Grady Memorial Dealing with Legionnaires' Disease Cases

Hospital officials at Grady Memorial Hospital have a battle on their hands, a battle with a potentially killer disease.

According to doctors, there has been a rise in cases involving Legionnaires' Disease. The disease, which is a form of pneumonia, has been traced to four patients in the last month.

The disease is generally caused by bacteria which can often be linked to water. The disease can also present itself in plumbing or air conditioning systems in a facility.

The four patients linked to the disease at Grady reportedly all spent time on the same floor while visiting the hospital.

Legionnaires' Disease got its name from a Philadelphia convention back in 1976 attended by legionnaries. An outbreak of the disease at a hotel where guests were staying led to 34 deaths.
