Council Backs Casino/Hotel Complex for Underground Atlanta

Underground Atlanta may be the place to go if you have a little extra money to play with.

City council members voted Monday evening to back a plan by developer Dan O’Leary to debut a half billion-dollar casino and hotel complex at Underground Atlanta.

In a unanimous vote, council backed a resolution seeking to have the Georgia Lottery Board approve the proposal. The money raised from this venture would go towards the HOPE Scholarship program and reportedly ring in millions of tax dollars for the city and metro region.

The proposal seeks to install some 5,000 video lottery terminals (VLTs) in Underground Atlanta.

If the plan moves forward, the initial phase would involve a $50 million overhaul of the present Underground, followed by construction of a $450 million hotel.
