Cobb County Police Arrest Teens in Wake of Student's Death

Police in Cobb County have arrested three teens who reportedly provided false statements following the death of Harrison High School student Garrett Reed. Reed was killed back in January following a two-car accident.

According to police, Kennesaw residents Trent Benson (left) and Matthew Graeff were arrested Friday on misdemeanor obstruction charges. A third teenager, a 16-year-old, was also arrested.

Police believe the three conceived a plan to offer false statements to officers about how minors got alcohol and where it was consumed prior to Reed’s death. Police also believe the three advised other students to provide police with false information.

Kecia Whitfield, 44, of Powder Springs was arrested nearly a week after Reed's death, charged with reportedly providing rum to the students.

Reed's vehicle crashed head-on into another car on Jan. 24, killing the teen. The driver of the other vehicle, Richard Reyes, 25, of Dallas, Ga., was seriously injured.
