Former NBA star Charles Barkley, a commentator for Atlanta-based TNT, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol early Wednesday in Arizona. According to authorities, an officer with a task force that focuses on drunken driving witnessed Barkley run a stop sign about 1:30 a.m. Barkley was in Scottsdale's Old Town area when he was pulled over.
Authorities reported that Barkley failed field sobriety tests after the officer smelled alcohol on him, and he was arrested. Barkley turned down a breath test but was given a blood test.
Barkley, who played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets, was cited and released. His car was impounded and Barkley departed in a cab.
