Another 258 parking spaces will be added to the Park & Ride lot on North Brown Road to accommodate an increasing number of transit riders, carpoolers and vanpoolers. The addition will bring the total number of spaces to 814. Gwinnett Transit alone has averaged 684 daily boardings at the lot during the first four months of this year.Gwinnett Transportation Director Brian Allen said federal and state funds would pay 90 percent of the $397,197 project cost. The Board of Commissioners on Tuesday awarded a contract for the expansion and refurbishment work to the lowest of 14 bidders, Sunbelt Asphalt Inc.
The lot, located between Sugarloaf Parkway and SR-120 across from Discover Mills Mall, serves Gwinnett Transit’s Route 103 express service to downtown Atlanta as well as local routes 40 to Lawrenceville and 50 to the Mall of Georgia and Buford area.
“This improvement will remove a major headache for commuters who lately have had to wonder if they would find a parking place in this Park & Ride lot,” said Allen.
