Woodstock High Teacher, Paraprofessional Charged with Abusing Student

Police arrested a Cherokee County high school teacher and her paraprofessional Monday for allegedly duct taping a special education student to a chair.

Authorities allege Woodstock High School teacher Laurie Peavy and her paraprofessional, Nancy Cheek, duct taped a special education student to a chair in 2008. During the investigation, police report another allegation came out that Peavy subdued another student beneath a desk in the classroom.

Peavy, 44, was charged with two counts of false imprisonment and two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree. Cheek, 49, meantime, was charged with one count of false imprisonment and one count of cruelty to children in the first degree.

Police Arrest 3 Woodstock High Students Following Lockdown

Police have reported the arrests of three Woodstock High School students after Holly Springs police got a report that they were headed to the Georgia school with assault rifles and handguns (see related story in Thursday's headlines).

Woodstock High School, Woodstock Middle School and Etowah High School were all placed on lockdown for several hours this morning as police investigated.


According to authorities, Forrest Busby, 17, was arrested at the high school and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, possession of a revolver by a person under 18, carrying a concealed weapon, theft by receiving stolen property, interference with child custody, manufacturing and distributing controlled suspect and disruption of a public school. An AR-15, Mini-14 and 200 rounds of ammunition were located in Busby’s house. Busby is being held without bail as of Thursday afternoon.

A 15-year-old student, whose name was not released, was also arrested. He is charged with party to the crime of possession of a weapon on school grounds, party of the crime of possession of a revolver under the age of 18, theft be taking firearm, runaway and disruption of a public school.

A third student was arrested but has not been charged.

According to authorities, it is unclear what the students planned to do. Several guns were also located in the school, including a gun reportedly found in a bathroom ceiling.

Woodstock Schools Locked Down; Weapons Found

Three Cherokee County schools went into lockdown mode for a few hours today following reports of a gun or guns on campus. Police arrested two male students who reportedly were involved in the incident.

According to authorities, Woodstock High School, Woodstock Middle School and Etowah High School were placed on lockdown after a gun was found in a Woodstock High School restroom ceiling.

Police also went to the homes of both individuals arrested after obtaining warrants, where several guns were reportedly confiscated.

Police had received a tip that two or three students would be going to Woodstock High today armed with the weapons and ammunition.

The lockdown ended shortly after 10 a.m.
