GPS Unveils Final Fourth of July Numbers

Officials with Georgia Public Safety recently reported the final numbers for the July Fourth holiday period.

According to officials, the final traffic count involved:

2,490 Crashes; 682 Injuries; 20 Fatalities; 17 Fatal Crashes.

Fatal crashes were reported by Athens-Clarke Co. Police, Chamblee Police, DeKalb Co. Police (2), Dougherty Co. Police, Floyd Co. Police, Henry Co. Police, and the Georgia State Patrol Posts in Calhoun, Conyers (2), Hinesville, LaGrange, Statesboro, Thomaston, Toccoa, Valdosta, and Villa Rica.

The holiday traffic count is a joint safety initiative of the Georgia State Patrol and the Crash Reporting Unit of the Georgia Department of Transportation. The holiday count is updated every six hours during the holiday periods for Memorial Day, July Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.

GPS Releases Memorial Day Accident Counts; 15 Die on Roads

According to the Georgia Public Safety Department, there were 2, 974 crashes, 752 injuries, 15 fatalities and 14 fatal crashes over the Memorial Day holiday weekend in the state.

Fatal crashes were reported by the Putnam Co. Sheriff's Department, Savannah-Chatham Metro, DeKalb Co. Police, Fulton Co. Police (2), Hinesville Police, and the Georgia State Patrol posts in Athens, Blue Ridge, Conyers, Cuthbert, Dalton, Hinesville, Jasper, and Lafayette.

The holiday traffic count is a joint safety initiative of the Georgia State Patrol and the Crash Reporting Unit of the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The holiday count is updated every six hours during the holiday periods for Memorial Day, July Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.

11 Dead in Holiday Fatalities to Date

With the holiday weekend still ongoing, Georgia Public Safety reported 11 roadway fatalities as of 6 p.m. EST today.

The New Year's holiday period traffic count as of 6 p.m. today is:



1,638 Crashes

396 Injuries
11 Fatalities
9 Fatal Crashes

Fatal crashes have been reported by: Putnam Co. S/O, Dekalb Co. P/D, Gwinnett Co. P/D, and the Georgia State Patrol posts in Americus, Dalton, Dublin (2), Lafayette, and Sylvania.
