Clayton County Puts Out Smoking in Parks, Rec Facilities

If you plan on having a cigarette in a Clayton County park or recreation facility, don't get caught.

The County's Commission voted Tuesday to ban all tobacco products from parks and recreation facilities starting immediately.

Many supporters of the ban said they were concerned about the dangers of second-hand smoke, especially around children who use the parks and rec facilities.

Man Arrested in Alleged Kidnap Attempt of Estranged Wife

A Clayton County man who allegedly tried to kidnap his estranged wife and infant child was arrested on Sunday at the Southlake Mall.

According to police, Darius Hosley, 27, forced his wife and the baby out of the mall at gunpoint. Hosley reportedly fired several shots when he was confronted by witnesses, but no one was injured.

Hosley ended up surrendering after authorities closed in on him.

Clayton County Apartment Shooting Claims One Life

A man was shot and killed early this morning in Clayton County during a home invasion inside a residence at the Poplar Springs Apartment.

According to authorities, the victim was the boyfriend of a woman who was living at the apartment with her two children. Both the woman and the kids escaped unharmed.

Authorities did not identify the victim who was killed. No arrests have been made as of early afternoon, according to police.

Clayton County Sex Sting Nabs a Dirty Dozen

A pre-weekend sex sting in Clayton County led to the arrests of 12 individuals on Friday.

According to local authorities, 12 people were placed under arrest and charged with pandering. The operation, which was situated at Tara Boulevard, between Old Dixie Way and Holiday Boulevard, lasted approximately five hours.

Working undercover the day before, authorities watched how local prostitutes would approach potential clients.

The next day, undercover female officers worked the area where men were reportedly offering money for sex.

Riverdale Mom Aided Husband in Raping Daughter

Clayton County police report that a Riverdale mother moved out of her marital bed so her husband could sexually assault their daughter there, plied the girl with vodka and ordered her to comply with continued rape and molestation.

According to police, the 33-year-old woman is charged with rape, statutory rape, incest, aggravated child molestation, sodomy, enticing a child for indecent purposes and furnishing alcohol to a minor. She is being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail.

Her estranged husband faces the same charges and is being sought by police.

The couple separated after reportedly confessing the crimes to Atlanta police. The location of the 32-year-old man are unknown.

New Clayton County Sheriff Removes 14 Deputies

New Clayton County Sheriff Kem Kimbrough made quite an impact on his first day behind the desk Thursday, reportedly firing 14 deputies.

According to Kimbrough, the firings were part of his campaign promise to clean up the department. The new sheriff said he has put in plan a new code of conduct that will rely on integrity and honesty. Those now out of a job have a different story.

Some of the former deputies allege they were removed because of their ties with the former sheriff, Victor Hill. In his last week in office, Hill, who lost in an election contest with Kimbrough earlier this year, filed for bankruptcy.

One television report noted that Kimbrough claimed the former sheriff “hired outcasts, thugs and rejects from every agency.”
