Falcons Offensive Tackle Charged in Fight on Facebook

An Atlanta Falcons player was charged with battery in connection with a reported fight with his wife over a Facebook friend.

Gwinnett County police took offensive tackle Quinn Ojinnaka, 25, into custody earlier this week at his residence in Suwanee.

According to authorities, Ojinnaka fought with his wife and allegedly spat at her regarding an incident over a female friend of his on Facebook.

Ojinnaka, who posted bail and was released from Gwinnett County Jail, reported his wife allegedly tried to stab him with a pen.

She claims he threw her on some stairs and tossed her out of the residence.

Dronett's Death Ruled a Suicide

The Gwinnett County medical examiner's chief forensics investigator ruled Thursday that the death of former Atlanta Falcons player Shane Dronett was a suicide.

Dronett, who was a member of the team's 1998 Super Bowl squad, was found dead in his home on Wednesday. The medical examiner's office did not release the type of suicide.

The former Falcon and Denver Broncos player had surgery around a year ago to remove a benign brain tumor. Dronett, who played professionally for 10 years, came to the NFL after playing at the University of Texas.

Dronett is survived by wife Kris and two daughters.

Ex-Falcon Discovered Dead in Home

Shane Dronett, who played a decade in the NFL and was a starter in every game as a member of the Atlanta Falcons' 1998 Super Bowl squad, was discovered dead in his home Wednesday.

According to authorities from the Gwinnett County police department, officers were called to Dronett’s home near Atlanta on Wednesday in relation to a possible suicide. Police confirmed that Dronett’s body was discovered at the residence, and that an autopsy was pending.

Dronett, a second round pick of the Denver Broncos in 1992, was 38 years old.

According to reports, a developer wants to construct a new stadium for the Falcons at the closed General Motors plant in Doraville. Sembler Developers, in a proposal for the Doraville City Council, is talking about a 90-acre, retractable roof stadium for the site at a cost of around $1 billion.

The Falcons, who clinched at least a wild card berth last weekend in the upcoming NFC playoffs, have a lease with the Georgia Dome through 2020.

There has also been talk of a new Georgia Dome being built near the area of the current one, which the Falcons have called home since 1992.

Falcons Clip Chargers, Win 8th Game of Season

The Atlanta Falcons stayed one game back of the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South with a 22-16 victory in San Diego Sunday afternoon.

Michael Turner returned against his former team and helped lead the Falcons to their eighth win of the season against four defeats. San Diego, meantime, is a very disappointing 4-8 with four games remaining.

Turner rushed for 120 yards against his ex-mates, while rookie QB Matt Ryan tossed a pair of touchdown passes.

Atlanta will travel to division rival New Orleans next Sunday.

Falcons to Meet Chargers Team in Need of a Win

The Atlanta Falcons will not take the San Diego Chargers lightly this Sunday, knowing that the 4-7 Chargers are desperate for a victory. The teams kick off Sunday afternoon in San Diego at 4:05 p.m. EST.

The contest will be a homecoming for running back Michael Turner, who originally served primarily as a blocking back in San Diego for running back LaDanian Tomlinson.

It is Turner, however, who is getting the carries these days in Atlanta, leading the NFL with 251 carries, while the Falcons themselves are second in the league in rushing. Turner rushed for four TD's and 117 yards in last weekend's 45-28 victory over division rival Carolina.

Meantime, rookie QB Matt Ryan out of Boston College passed for 259 yards last weekend to lead the Falcons to their seventh win of the season. Atlanta is currently one game back of Carolina and Tampa Bay in the NFC South.

San Diego, meantime, comes into the game at 4-7, but still alive in the weak AFC West, sitting two games behind the Denver Broncos with five to play. The two teams meet in the season finale on Dec. 28 in San Diego.

The Chargers dropped their seventh game of the season last Sunday night in a 23-20 loss to Indianapolis.

Atlanta leads the all-time series with San Diego 6-1.

Vick Pleads Guilty to Dogfighting Charge

Michael Vick's fall from NFL stardom continued on Tuesday, as the one-time Atlanta Falcons star QB pleaded guilty in Sussex, Virginia to a state dogfighting charge.

With the plea, Vick may be eligible to exit prison early and return to the NFL.

Vick, 28, also pleaded not guilty to a count of cruelty to animals, but that charge was dropped under his plea deal.

The former Virginia Tech star received a three-year suspended sentence — far less than the maximum of 10 years he might have faced.
